Gianni Virone & Alessandro Chiappetta - Axes Duo
Axes Jazz Duo è il gruppo nato dalla ventennale collaborazione del chitarrista Alessandro Chiappetta con Gianni Virone, sassofonista e polistrumentista.
Formatosi nel 2007 in occasione del Festival Jazz di Alba questo duo ha costruito nel tempo un ampio repertorio di brani jazz, a partire dalle più conosciute canzoni americane del dopoguerra fino a brani di compositori importanti come Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter e molti altri.
“Axes sta ad indicare il nostro tentativo di stare sempre in equilibrio sui giri armonici dei brani cercando di assecondare e sviluppare l’idea musicale del momento attraverso l’intreccio delle nostre linee, dei nostri suoni, in un costante e reciproco adattamento. I ruoli talvolta si scambiano e il sax accompagna la chitarra. E’ un po’ il nostro modo di giocare con l’improvvisazione, ci divertiamo così”.

Axes Jazz Duo is the group born from the twenty-year collaboration between guitarist Alessandro Chiappetta and Gianni Virone, saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist.
Formed in 2007 on the occasion of the Alba Jazz Festival, this duo has built over time an extensive repertoire of jazz pieces, ranging from the best-known American songs of the post-war era to works by important composers such as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Wayne Shorter, and many others.
"Axes refers to our attempt to always stay balanced on the harmonic progressions of the pieces, trying to follow and develop the musical idea of the moment through the interweaving of our lines, our sounds, in a constant and mutual adaptation. The roles sometimes swap and the saxophone accompanies the guitar. It's a bit our way of playing with improvisation — we have fun this way."
